ABOUT FSMATHS

FSMaths was born in 2020, when, during the first lockdown, I began thinking seriously about tutoring as a full-time career.

At the time, I was a Maths teacher in a local secondary school, and tutoring in the evenings, but a 12 hour teaching day was getting a bit much, and the school environment gradually became a place I didn’t want to be anymore.

I have been tutoring since 2013, after finishing my Maths degree, and since then, I have had a job as a full-time intervention tutor in a secondary school, completed my PGCE, then was a Maths teacher until the end of 2022, when I took the leap to making tutoring and revision resources my full-time occupation.

It’s safe to say the self-employed life is definitely working out for me so far, and the love I have always had for teaching and helping others has become so much greater in this time, as I have to opportunity to work on a 1-1 basis in most cases and can really work with someone to reach
their potential, without the obstacles they may face in school, by working on their weaker topics, building their confidence in their abilities, and helping to make sure their wellbeing is staying in check through the stressful times.

GET STARTED NOW

My forte is (and probably always will be) preparing students for GCSE Maths – I have done every single paper available, as well as teaching the whole Edexcel syllabus since before the last change in curriculum in 2015, and know almost every possible way of a question being asked, where the marks can be gained (and lost), as well as the most typical errors, and even the easiest way to ‘cheat’ a couple of marks on a question you don’t really know how to do!

I have a pet peeve for teachers not teaching students how to correctly use their calculators – long gone are the days of ‘you won’t always have a calculator in your pocket’, so why not make sure you can use the thing properly! Saying that, I do have a strict focus on making sure students can do mental and written calculations first!

A level lessons take a different format to those for younger students, with more of a teamwork style – we work on questions together, and I ask how or why the students use a method so that they’re “teaching me” how to do it – I know from my personal experience of A Level Maths that
this method works!

Thank you if you’ve read this far, and please don’t hesitate to say hi or ask any questions you may have.

Client Testimonials

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our clients say:

I can not recommend Francesca enough for her huge support and amazing tutoring with my daughter, for 3 1/2 years she has supported and guided and made her fall in love with math. I know she is going to miss her weekly lessons as you became someone who was not just a tutor but someone who listened to her. You are amazing at what you do. Thankyou so much x

M – 2024

I have no hesitation in recommending Fran as a GCSE maths tutor. My daughter was struggling leading up to her Maths GCSE and had lost a lot of confidence due to gaps in her knowledge caused by missed teaching during covid. Fran was quickly able to fill in the gaps in her knowledge and increase her confidence which made a big difference to her mock test results. She got on incredibly well with my daughter, who really looked forward to their weekly sessions. Fran was always incredibly patient with the many, many questions that my daughter asked! She was very flexible, always willing to arrange times that suited us and extra sessions before exams if they were needed.

N – 2024

Fran has been an excellent-tutor to my son (currently in year 11) for 2 years. Throughout this time, Fran has always been punctual/ and professional. My son’s confidence and skills set has grown tremendously and this is reflected in his grades, progress and general numeracy skills, which is delightful-to see. Fran has built an excellent relationship with my son, her easy manner makes maths seem much less of a challenge, my son actually enjoys maths now! Thanks Fran!
